When founder and owner Guy Maiorano opened The Elms in 1985, it was the first assisted living facility in the Westerly, R.I., area. Guy purchased the beautiful Victorian building, and inspired by his grandmother's own senior living needs, made it his mission to support Rhode Island’s elderly with independent living balanced by personal assistance they could not get anywhere else.
After several expansions, The Elms is now a senior living community with 75 apartments with many sizes and layouts. But there’s more. In 2000, Guy opened the Carriage House at the Elms, Rhode Island’s first stand-along assisted living facility dedicated to caring for seniors with Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia. A second community for those with memory challenges, Chestnut Cottage, opened in 2010.
All together, The Elms now offers 130 apartments for senior citizens who need assisted living in Rhode Island. All of us, from managers and nurses to housekeepers and cooks, are committed to providing outstanding personalized care and service for our assisted living residents.
